100 billion items of clothing are bought each year, and with 3 out of 5 T-Shirts purchased today thrown away within 12 months, a dump truck of clothing is going to landfill\u00a0every second. This is one of the reasons we are being a part of making that change.<\/span><\/h3>

Our products are made from natural materials, using renewable energy, and everything we make is designed from the start to be sent back when it is worn out. We make new products from the materials we recover. Instead of making waste, we make new products from it. It's a circular supply chain.<\/span><\/p>

Every minute the equivalent of one rubbish truck of plastic leaks into streams and rivers, ultimately ending up in the ocean. An estimated 100 million marine animals die each year due to discarded plastic and the problem is set to get worse. The Ellen Macarthur foundation report on the new plastics economy estimates that by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the world\u2019s oceans.<\/span><\/p>

It is clear that urgent action is needed on multiple fronts. One area of direct concern for tafia.co.uk is the fact that just 14% of the plastic packaging used globally makes its way to recycling plants, and only 9% is actually recycled. Meanwhile, a third is left in fragile ecosystems, and 40% ends up in landfill. We have removed all plastic from our packaging and we now use paper packaging and our\u00a0mailing bags are responsibly sourced and made from 100% recycled material. You can even let the kids colour it in before composting!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>

Washing clothes releases 500,000 tons of polyester microfibers into the ocean each year according to World Economic Forum statistics, that\u2019s the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles in weight but each tiny fibre is small enough to be absorbed by plankton and bioaccumulate up into our food chains. Polyester does not break down in the ocean and this kind of plastic can never be removed or cleaned up from nature.<\/span><\/p>

The only solution is to immediately redesign the way clothes are made. For us, that means using materials made from plants, not plastic, and instead of sending products to landfill, sending them back to us to be remade. That is what a circular fashion economy looks like, and because of the choices we made when choosing our supply chain, every product in our collection is designed in this way.
